I can’t think of a worse fate and path to success than to be typecast and trapped as peewee Herman forever. The guy had to spank it at nudie cinemas because almost no women on the planet wanted to tell anyone they sleep with the guy that played peewee. I still think he did that purposely and got exposed on purpose because he knew it would finally kill off the character and he would rather be known as a public masturbator than to be peewee for the rest of his life.

Scenes from big holiday were filmed in the city I went to HS in but then again LOTS of movies have scenes filmed there HELL there is a fake railroad and tunnel in one of the mountains as you are leaving the city...

The reason why he caught on with kids a little later on in doing the character like around 1986. It’s because most of us millennials had parents who had us when they were teens meaning 15 1617 etc. so a lot of us already knew Pee-wee from Cheech and Chong and not from Pee-wee’s Playhouse😂😂😂😂😂 I am an unsheltered kid. I seen Cheech and Chong up and smoke. When I was four years old. It was my favorite movie ever the Ajax scene alone had me.

I use to watch this with my friends (not parents) when I was 13 in 2005ish and I wasn’t the only one with a copy. Plus it aired on Comedy Central every weekend. I love your channel and series… I guess that’s why I’m so outraged 😂

It's tragically ironic that he was getting clean and sober, only to be taken out by substances in another way.

This was wonderfully done. And I really like how subtly and quickly you skimmed over “the incident”, if you will.

Years ago, I spoke with the director of this film (Jonathan Lynn). I was mostly curious to ask about Trial & Error, it's always piqued my interest. I regard it as a good underrated 90s comedy, now largely forgotten, a real curiosity piece. It was always doomed to be overshadowed by Lynn's more famous court room comedy, My Cousin Vinny. I was particularly fascinated by the idea of the two lead actors (Jeff Daniels and Michael Richards), both of whom were notorious for being ultra-serious about their work at the time. Lynn said, verbatim: "Jeff Daniels is a fine actor, very versatile and smart. Michael Richards did his thing". That told me everything I needed to know. Lynn said he was proud of giving Charlize Theron her biggest break in Hollywood to that point. But he was moderately happy with how the film turned out, and felt the marketing had been messed up. He also added that he was forced to make cuts that diminished the quality of the film, but cinema audiences at the time still generally did find it funny. It just never really found its audience before it was taken from cinemas. And since then, it has only been available on DVD. I enjoy the film and think it makes a good companion piece to Vinny

This is such a splendid tribute to Paul Reubens. I found him to be absolutely a delight in character acting roles. In particular- Buffy The Vampire Slayer. (Spoiler Alert!) His overall performance as a vampire and death scene was so camp and is what adds to the classic, cult vibe of the movie. R.I.P. Mr. Reubens. 🎬

It bugs me in 2024 to know that the Popeye set on the Maltese coast is still standing but in a state of decay. It’s so unique to being Sweethaven that production crews seem to overlook it.

The kid in me loved to see Pee-Wee do an interview but the adult in me loved to see Paul Reubens do an interview.

I'm American and I adore these two. My uncle turned me on to Terence Hill early through his love of spaghetti Westerns, specifically My Name is Nobody and the Trinity films. Also from a goofy 1980 movie he was in called Super Fuzz. Been watching them where I can ever since. I've found that most here in America that do know them are fans of the old school Westerns, but man, they did so many different genre movies it's not even funny. Slaps and Beans is also a great game!

Such a huge loss. Pee-Wee specifically had such a formative effect on my childhood and sense of humor. Paul Reubens was always so great in interviews- so soft spoken and gentle but his comic timing was PERFECT.

Laurel and Hardy and The Three Stooges helped shape my overall sense of humor as a kid. Even in the 80's, they were on quite a bit on various cable stations. I've long held that Stan Laurel was the most singularly talented comedian of his day. And oh man, NOBODY gave a stink eye or did a double take like James Finlayson.

One thing I liked about Rubbens was how much of a prolific voice actor he was, his portrayal as Batmite in brave and the bold was freaking hilarious

I would LOVE to hear your thoughts on Spaced Invaders, since you mentioned it. I finally decided to rewatch it a few years ago. I loved it as a kid, but was super nervous that I would ruin my memory if I watched it now that I'm much older. Turns out, it aged pretty darn well! Not quite as funny to me now, though I did still laugh a couple of times. More importantly, nothing problematic that I could see, which is a rarity in comedic movies of the era!

I love Pee-wee Herman the character. Paul Ruben was definitely a genius actor. I miss him too.

As someone who grew up watching him as a little kid I can definitely say this is one of the better bios I've seen. I never got to see Big Adventure in the theater. But as soon as it came out on VHS my mom bought it for me. I wore that tape out, literally.
